The Spirit Sanctuary began in 1990 with the purchase of our first building which we call the "Glass House" or facility A. Shortly thereafter construction was begun on the multi-purpose room ( The Gleason-Jackson Room) and the tower. Rocks were collected on the property which were used in their construction. A few years later a property lower on the mountain became available and was purchased. Adding The Big House (Facility B) and the guest house/ utility room. Over time a tree house, recreation room, computer lab and dining hall ( The Sampson/Butts Dining Hall) have been added.
Many groups and celebrities have visited over the years. Each year a Black Man's retreat is held to open and close the facility for the season.

This is a living, growing place and we welcome donations of art, equipment, or supplies to help the cause. We are literally a "Shangri-La" of the African American Culture.
